Doctors have advised limiting or avoiding saturated fat, which can lead to a variety of diseases. Now it is also linked to lower sperm count in men. A research study suggested that a diet high in saturated fat may be responsible for lower concentrations of sperm. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition examined the association between fat intake and sperm count among 701 men and found men with diets high in saturated fat had a 38 percent lower sperm concentration overall, and a 41 percent lower total sperm counts than those with less saturated fat in their diet. The researchers concluded that lowering saturated fat intake may be beneficial to general health as well as reproductive health.
