Acupuncture

A method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning achieved by inserting disposable solid needles, applying heat or electrical stimulation to multiple acupuncture points.

How does Acupuncture work?

The classical Chinese explanation of acupuncture is that channels of energy run in regular patterns throughout the body and over its surface. These energy channels, called meridians, are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues. An obstruction in the movement of these energy rivers is like a dam that backs up in others.

The meridians may be influenced by needling the acupuncture points allowing the acupuncture needles to unblock the obstructions at the dams and reestablishing the regular flow through the meridians. Acupuncture treatments can therefore help the body’s internal organs to correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption, and energy production activities, and in the circulation of their energy through the meridians.

The modern scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones, which influence the body’s internal regulating system.

The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being.

Hear What Others are Saying!

I haven’t had any serious health issue or problem for my whole life and so I did not pay attention to my health. But after I was married and had 4 consecutive miscarriages, I realized that something was wrong. During six years of marriage, I visited gynecology offices and acupuncturists to see if there was something I need to be treated but everything seemed fine. And then I met Iris.

She pointed out my current healthy issues and kindly explained to me that I needed to be healthier to have a baby. So she recommended me to have acupuncture treatments. I was a little worried at first because I heard about acupuncture, but only the bad side of stories (maybe they were not true at all), and plus I’ve never had acupuncture before.

At the first day of the treatment, she put needles on my foot (It was bearable) and then four more needles on head. The moment the needles in my head, I was amazed by the feeling that I’ve never experienced! I felt like peppermint was spread throughout my head and blood inside of my body was moving fast. I’ve always had a heavy headed feeling and feeling that something is blocking my vision. I think I ignored them because I had these symptoms so long that they were kind of a part of me. But with acupuncture treatments, these symptoms were so much improved.

I was pregnant again after three acupuncture sessions. I wanted to continue the treatment for those symptoms but I had to stop after I found out my pregnancy. But I was very happy and thankful for being pregnant. Compared to my previous four pregnancies, I feel a lot better this time. Iris was right. A healthy mom can have a healthy baby.

If you have the same problem as I had, I really want to recommend acupuncture treatment and hope that you have beautiful healthy babies, too.

Iris Lee, MS, LAc, NCCAOM

Meet Iris

Iris was born and raised in South Korea where acupuncture and herbal remedies are the mainstream of medicine. She has personally received these Eastern Medicine treatments since early childhood to heal various illnesses and help her stay healthy. Iris’ interest in becoming a practitioner of Eastern Medicine grew stronger when she met a young lady who had never needed to visit a doctor's office due to illness because both of her parents were acupuncturists. Iris was fascinated by her story, began to study acupuncture herself, and instantly fell in love with this natural medicine. She successfully completed her four-year program and earned a Master’s Degree of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine with honors.

Iris has a wide range of clinical experiences, having treated people of all ages for a diverse variety of health concerns including pain and injuries, stress and anxiety, digestive and respiratory problems, autoimmune disorders, skin disorders, allergies, etc. Iris has placed a special focus on the treatment of women's health and fertility improvement as a result of having had suffered from infertility for 7 years after marriage. Having gone through two miscarriages and one surgery, she understands the frustration, anxiety, and depression that most fertility patients experience. Iris received tremendous help from acupuncture and herb remedies at this time and was treated for the root cause of infertility. She is now happily raising two healthy boys.

As an acupuncture practitioner, Iris strongly believes that a healthy woman can have a healthy pregnancy, a healthy baby, and a healthy postpartum without complications. Her passion in practice is not limited to women's health and fertility but naturally expanded to postpartum care and pediatrics. Iris feels honored to help women throughout their years from fertility improvement to pregnancy and postpartum, along with other concerns such as hormone imbalance, PMS, stress, and anxiety. Through the use of acupuncture, cupping massage, herbal remedies, and nutrition, Iris will help to support each patient’s body and mind to their ultimate wellness.
